Where's the Peace?

“Where’s the Beef?”

Now, if you remember this question from the Wendy’s commercial back in the 80’s, then you and I are telling our age!   This famous phrase, “Where’s the Beef?” was one of the most quotable advertising campaigns to mock the small size of hamburger sandwiches from competing restaurants.

We can apply the essence of this refrain during the second week of Advent where the themes of peace and faith are highlighted, yet many are wondering, “Where’s the Peace?”

As we review the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, I am assured that Mary and Joseph wondered too, “Where’s the Peace?”  Mary and Joseph had to deal with gossip about their pending marriage and a pregnancy, then they had a governmental directive to adhere to Census guidelines, the mandate to travel during the last trimester of pregnancy, then there was the threat of danger from King Herod who wanted to take the life of Jesus.  Mary had many pressures of life, but she carried the Prince of Peace within her.  “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

May we not look at our circumstances and wonder, “Where’s the Peace?” but may we look to our Christ and know that He is our Prince of Peace.  Hold on to your faith and know that despite challenges, Jesus will be the peace within each of us to know He will sustain us through it all.

At the 15th Christmas for the City, which will be held on Saturday, December 17th from 1:00 – 6:00 pm at the Benton Convention Center in Winston - Salem, our desire is that every volunteer and participant will have a peaceful experience as we create an atmosphere to highlight the Birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
